Following the successful conduct of the District Level Elections in December last year, inaugural ceremonies have been held at 259 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across Ghana, with the exception of Nkoranza South Municipal and Nkoranza North District Assemblies whose tenures are yet to end.
Asene Manso Akroso District Assembly on Monday the 12th of February, 2024 inaugurated 22 elected Assembly Members and 10 Government Appointees to foster development in the district.
The Inauguration was held in the Assembly Hall of the district assembly in accordance with the 1992 constitution and the Local Government Act, 2016(Act 936).
The 22 elected Assembly members and 10 Government Appointees were led to swear the oath of secrecy and allegiance by her Worship Adeliane Owusuaa Antwi, who represented the Chief Justice.
A speech read on behalf of the President by the Roads Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa West Hon. Amoako Atta, said Assembly members have the mandate to deliberate, plan, mobilize resources, make decisions including bye-laws to ensure the transformation of the district towards the better Ghana we all want.
The Minister went on to say that the occasion marks another important milestone towards deepening decentralization as stipulated in Article 35 (6D) of the 1992 constitution and that the article enjoins the state to promote decentralization and popular participation in governance by affording all opportunities to the citizen to participate in decision making at all levels of government.
The Minister congratulated all the newly elected members and urged them to avoid political feuds in the discharge of their work.
The chief of Manso Obrempong Sintim Opoku III, in his closing remarks was full of praise to the Minister and the President and pleaded with the Minister to complete the rest of the abandon roads as promised.
After the Chiefs closing remarks, the election of the Presiding Member was initiated and after the voting there was no clear winner, and so the election of the Presiding Member was moved to a new date.
The District Chief Imam, Chief Saeed Zibiru said the closing prayer and the programme came to an end.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by esteemed individuals, including government representative Hon. Amoako Atta, Minister of Roads and MP for Atiwa West, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, DCE of Akim Oda, Hon. George Kwame Aboagye, MP Asene Manso Akroso, Hon. Alexander Kwabena Incoom, DCE, Madam Gladys Asamoah Addai, District Coordinating Director, Mr Effah Samson, Obrempong Sintim Opoku III, Chief of Manso, Her Worship Adeliane Owusuaa Antwi, District Chief Imam, Chief Saeed Zibiru, Rev. Oppong Nimo, Minister of the Presbyterian church Manso, security services as well as heads of departments and staff of the Assembly.
