The Asene Manso Akroso District Assembly in conjunction with the Forestry Commission commemorated the 2023 Green Ghana Day on Friday 9th, June at the Asubone forest reserve on the theme “Our forests, Our Health”.
Officers of the Forestry Commission, staffs of AMADA, and some selected school children from the Asuosu basic school marked the day by planting 5000 seedlings of different species.
The DCE Hon. Alex Kwabena Incoom in his keynote address expressed his heartfelt gratitude to each and every one for joining in this noble cause. He said, Green Ghana Day is not a symbolic event, it is a call to action, a call for us to take responsibility for the preservation and restoration of our precious natural resources. our beautiful district, with its lush forests, sparkling rivers, and diverse flora and fauna is a treasure we must protect. However we cannot ignore the pressing challenges of deforestation, climate change and environmental degradation that threaten our ecosystems and livelihoods. It is up to us to reverse this course to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
He encourage everyone to take the spirit of Green Ghana Day into their everyday lives. Conserve energy, reduce waste and champion environmental awareness in our communities. Together, we can create a more sustainable and resilient district.
He thanked everyone present for their dedication to this cause, and urged them to plant trees always with hope and determination for a greener, healthier, and more beautiful Ghana.
The Forestry Commissioner Director Mad. Linda Kokofu in her address emphasized on the role that trees play in our lives. She said as we have gathered to plant trees, we are taking a stand for the environment, for future generations, and for the countless species that depend on our forest for survival. Each tree planted is a symbol of hope, resilience, and a commitment to a sustainable future.
She concluded by encouraging all present to come together and build a greener Ghana, where the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature is not just a dream but a reality.
